Your mission will be to act as an evangelist to establish HaloPure as the number one industry solution for drinking water disinfection amongst key drinking water companies via an embedded cartridge model. To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have solid experience managing key accounts and relationships as well as a high degree of comfort working with technical products, including presenting effectively to audiences that include both business and technical professionals. We're looking for a business development professional with the patience and technical savvy to drive a fairly long and relatively complex development cycle involving customized solutions rather than a "plug-and-play" product.

What Else You'll Bring to the Table

In addition to the qualifications detailed above, you'll need:
  • A business or technical degree.
  • Five to ten years of business development experience in related industries, preferably with consumer products.
  • A strong record of success in driving and delivering on business development goals, ideally with an emphasis on developing world markets.
  • Demonstrated success in key account management/technical sales and the ability to work cross-functionally with engineering and science disciplines.
  • A comprehensive understanding of (or willingness to quickly learn) the global drinking water market, key technologies, technology integration, products, and market drivers.
  • Excellent presentation and selling skills, including a demonstrated ability to develop and deliver high quality, polished presentations to mixed business and technical audiences.
  • Good financial skills.
  • The ability to develop and follow business plans.
  • Strong self-motivation and self-direction, and the ability to work independently and interdependently to achieve business results.
  • Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with partners, colleagues, operating managers, and customers.
  • Political savvy.
  • A high level of intelligence and the ability to quickly grasp complicated technical issues and explain them in appropriately simplified terms.
  • A high degree of professionalism as well as cultural adaptability and sensitivity.
  • The highest standards of integrity and ethics.
Preferred but not required:
  • An MBA or advanced degree.
  • A strong technical background, ideally in chemistry, biology, or engineering.
  • International business experience.
  • Experience in regulated industries.
Compared to many business development positions, your travel will not be extensive. At the same time, you should have a valid passport and be prepared to travel up to 30% of the time, both domestically and internationally.

More About Your Role

If you're a good fit for this position, you already know most of what this job entails. However, to be sure we're providing a complete picture, here are some details.

You will report to the Vice President of Marketing and Business Development and also work closely with the Director of Drinking Water, who is currently managing several dozen partner relationships. While you will assist with many of these relationships (more than half are still in the early contact stage), you also will seek out and follow new leads. We also have a Business Development Manager focusing on China, but that leaves the rest of the world for you.

In essence this role involves key account management with a technical focus, and your primary goal will be to drive partner company engagements and sales of HaloPure cartridge solutions to first and second tier drinking water companies globally via the embedded cartridge model. You will be the central liaison between technical teams at partner companies and within HaloSource.

Serving as a key member of the business development team for the Drinking Water Business, we'll look to you to set high expectations for business performance and deliver results. In addition, your activities will include:
  • Developing business strategy and executing select alliances and/or partnerships to build the business, with guidance from the VP of Marketing & BD and Director of Drinking Water.
  • Developing business plans and presentations to communicate critical aspects of the business and support Company expectations.
  • Tracking competitive technologies and companies and positioning HaloPure technology to maximize business growth and profitability.
  • Understanding critical technical and regulatory matters and providing input to the technical team regarding priorities.
  • Developing strong relationships with key partners based upon trust, mutual respect, and shared value creation. Working with Senior Management, you'll negotiate key commercial deals with selected partners.
  • Integrating technical, regulatory, commercial, and financial perspectives and communicating clearly with management, our partners, our shareholders, and outside entities.
  • Serving as a key commercial contact with developed customers and managing business-to-business relationships.
  • Driving resourcing decisions to achieve commitments.

Keys to Success

To excel in this role you will combine your technical savvy with a passion for the technology, the impact it can have on the industry, and the diverse array of potential applications. You also will need patience and persistence: we are a technology integrator using contact bio-cide technology, our product and our partner's applications are complex, and the business development cycle typically lasts between 6 and 18 months. Your challenge will be to influence others not only to consider a radically new technology, but also to understand and embrace it, and then sustain momentum during the development of customized applications.
